Hi, my name is Yardena Gerwin, I’m 15 years old and I attend the Abraham Joshua Heschel school in Manhattan. I live with my parents, two sisters and goldfish.
I was born in Jerusalem, Israel and have spent Kindergarten and 7th grade on sabbatical years in Jerusalem. Spending time living outside of America has really helped me become aware of global issues especially surrounding woman’s rights. I relish participating in Model U —somehow I am always placed in the woman’s rights committees! — and I am also a part of the debate team. I’m the co-president of my school’s Interfaith Club and a research intern for a Jewish feminist organization designed to inspire leadership skills in girls. Another fulfilling responsibility is being a Youth Fellow at the Interfaith Center of New York. On the weekends I lead religious services for children at the local Synagogue, Darchei Noam.
Although I live in City I love hiking, rock climbing and bird watching in wilderness areas and even go to an outdoor adventure camp in the Rocky Mountains. In my free time, I enjoy reading, watching John Oliver, spending time with my friends, going to the Famers Market, exploring neighborhoods in New York and seeing as many Broadway shows as I can.
I am excited to join Girl Up and help empower girls in my community to advocate for those who need their voice heard worldwide.
