Hey guys! My name is Vaannila Annadurai. I’m 16 years old and I attend DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky. I created the Girl Up club and am currently the President of the club at my high school.
Outside of Girl Up, music is one of my greatest hobbies. I play the flute in my school’s band. I love playing my instrument and I have also participated in All-County and All-State ensembles. I also enjoy listening to music and discovering new artists. I enjoy all genres of music, but my favorite genre is either Indie or Alternative music.
Additionally, I am the Kentucky State Director for the Campaign for a Presidential Youth Council. This is a campaign that aims to get President Obama to establish a Youth Council to aid in political decisions. I have always been a supporter of youth empowerment, and I believe young people of all nations, backgrounds and genders should have a voice.
In my free time, I love to read, hang out with my friends, go hiking, and ride my bike. I participate in my school’s mock trial team, and through this I have learned crucial public speaking skills. I love learning French and I am the president of my school’s French scrabble team as well as involved with the National French Honors Society. I am also a varsity member of the Girls’ Golf team.
In the future, I hope to have the ability to travel the world. I have been to seven different countries. My favorite country is South Africa, where I attended a summer program this past year. I love learning about new cultures and meeting interesting people from all over the world. Even though I just recently got involved with the organization, Girl Up has had a tremendously positive impact on my life and I am thrilled to serve as a Teen Advisor.
