Hi, my name is Sarah. I’m 17, and a rising senior from Queens, NY. I was born and raised in India, and although I come from a nurtured and protected environment, I’ve seen women disrespected in the workplace and within their own homes.
After I moved to NY in the 9th grade, I got involved with GirlUp, and ever since, have worked my way through several seminars at the UN regarding women and the power of girls through Girl Up and Model UN. Working with Girl Up opened my eyes to the several ways we can aid the women that don’t get the rights they deserve, and help raise their status in their communities.
In the future, I’d like to attend Brown University and work with Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders) as a Gynecologist to provide for the needy in conjunction with continuing my journey with Girl Up. As a Teen Advisor, I can’t wait to fuel my inner feminist with a group of invigorating teenagers that feel just as passionately about this cause as I do.
