My name is Misk Khalif and I am a rising senior from the state of Minnesota. At my high school I’m involved in a variety of clubs from Speech & Debate to Peer Leaders to Track & Field.
As a student who is deeply passionate about STEM, I have seen first-hand how women and people of color are poorly represented in these fields. In turn, I spearheaded a STEM center targeted at increasing gender/racial parity in STEM fields by providing tutoring services, mentorship, and teach coding skills for girls. We are empowering girls to lead in the digital era and to recognize that there are no limitations to their potential.
Growing up in a Somali-American home made me aware of the lack of opportunities and rights for many girls across the globe simply due to the circumstances they were born into. It has encouraged me to raise my voice and advocate for the rights of girls. I am thrilled and honored to be a Girl Up Teen Advisor and to illuminate the power of investing in girls. I look forward to working alongside other young leaders to create a more equal and uplifting world for girls everywhere.
