Hi! I’m Giuliana Gabellini from New York, New York. I am 13 years old and in the eighth grade at Poly Prep Country Day School.
Ever since I was very little, I loved to read. And when I ran out of books of my own, I read my parent’s books. When I was about 9 years old, I picked up a book on my mother’s desk called “Half the Sky” by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. As I read this book, even at the young age of 9, the stories about the lives of these girls in developing countries broke my heart and were poignant reminders of how fortunate I am.
For years, these stories never left me, but I never knew how to get involved with a cause that directly affects these girls’ lives. That is, until two English teachers at my school started a club called Girls Can. The Girls Can club quickly transformed into a Girl Up club, and went on successfully from there.
Outside from Girl Up, I love playing the piano, playing the trumpet, and singing. I am a total literature and science geek, and reading and writing are a huge part of my life.
Having the opportunity to be a Teen Advisor means so much to me because I am really passionate about helping girls in developing countries, and this is the perfect way to help these girls.
I am so excited to help change these girls’ lives, and extend the reach of this amazing organization to the farthest reaches of the world.
