大家好！ I’m Eva Jones from Hood River, Oregon. I am 16-years-old and the Founder and President of Hood River Valley High School Girl Up. Growing up in the beautiful Columbia Gorge within a diverse community and environment, nestled in between Mt Hood and the Columbia River, has inspired me to be a passionate advocate for our earth and the organisms on it. I am a junior at Hood River Valley High School, and ridiculously excited to be a Teen Advisor this year!
I joined Girl Up after applying for the Malawi WiSci Camp and found an incredible community of passionate girls ready to fight and support global gender empowerment and equality. Upon attending the Leadership Summit in Washington DC in 2017, I was a jumbled amoeba of ideas and enthusiasm. A year later, our club has raised over $13,000 for SchoolCycle, met with our representatives over a plethora of issues, including gun safety and HR 2408, and established feminist education opportunities in our small community, through movie screenings and presentations, working with local media and organizations, and creating care packages and artwork for our local women shelter. We recently won the Kali Special Service Challenge, collecting 391 old bras to donate! Girl Up allows me to grow, learn, and collaborate with other passionate individuals in the adventure for global good. I hope to pair my yearning for intersectional feminism with my love for STEM and problem-solving. In my school, I was the first girl to take Calculus as a sophomore.
Currently, I am the Programming Captain and Community Outreach Advocate for my World Championship competing First Tech Challenge robotics team, Steelhead 8176. In conjunction, I am involved in my school’s Gender-Sexuality Alliance, Eagle Ambassadors, National Honors Society, Somos Uno, It’s On Us, Earth Action Club, Track and Field, Alpine Skiing, and Cross Country Team. I love connecting with diverse people and the environment, and am openminded to trying and failing. My life goal is to make a positive change in the world, and I cannot wait to achieve this with the amazing girls at Girl Up!
