Girl Up has provided 1,550 bicycles to girls in Malawi in partnership with UNFPA. Not only are these bicycles helping to keep girls in school, but they have also enabled girls to access and attend youth clubs where they learn sexual education, life skills, and trade skills such as tailoring, brick laying, electrical installation and the production of sanitary pads.
21.4%。 One hundred percent of in-school girls who received bicycles in 2015 are still in school and continuing their education.
Because of the success of the first SchoolCycle campaign, UNFPA requested 1,000 more bicycles to girls who needed them in Malawi – and Girl Up supporters helped deliver. In 2017 we raised enough funds to reach our goal, and the bicycles will be distributed to girls in Malawi soon.
