"Hello Girl Up! My name is Amelia Marcum and I am a senior at Regis Jesuit High School in Denver, Colorado. I currently serve as the founding President of the Girl Up club chapter at my school. Words cannot describe how incredibly excited and honored I am to be serving at a 2020-2021 Girl Up Teen Advisor. I am looking forward to collaborating with my inspiring, change-making peers to make this is the best year of Girl Up yet!
I first became involved with Girl Up in 2018 after attending the leadership summit in Washington, DC. I was very impressed by the impact that so many girls were having in their community and became inspired to bring the incredible message of Girl Up back to my school. As a club, we have participated in many rewarding activities, including running to fundraise for an Ethiopian Girls Running team, hosting an executive speaker series, and organizing an event to encourage increased women in sports.
When I am not fighting for gender equality with Girl Up, I enjoy singing, performing in musicals, and watching football with my family. I am committed to ensuring that every girl understands the power of her voice and increasing diverse representation of women in leadership globally. Girl Up has given me the tools to connect with so many inspiring young leaders all over the world and I am thrilled to expand my involvement with this incredible organization through the Teen Advisor program!" -

Hello friends! My name is Amina Salahou and I am a 17-year-old rising senior at Nottingham High School in Syracuse, NY! I fell in love with Girl Up after attending the leadership summit in 2018. The following school year, I started the first Girl Up club in my school district with a group of girls and a wonderful advisor! My work with Girl Up continued, and I co-founded the first Girl Up club in my high school, where I continue to serve as co-leader.
The most impactful event my club has organized was our Period Party which was a kick-off party to our menstrual product drive where all products were donated to RISE, a refugee organization in Syracuse! We received over 1,000 individual products and we still continue to advocate for menstruators!
Outside of Girl Up, I advocate for mental health through social media, by posting positive messages through the Instagram story feature on a daily basis! In my free time, I like to volunteer at my local mosque through youth groups that produce a positive meaning on what it means to be a Muslim youth! I am also on my school’s varsity volleyball and lacrosse team!
I am so excited to be a Teen Advisor and have this platform to be able to continue making change for girls all around the world! -

"¡Hola! My name is Anagaby and I am an 18-year-old Mexican who is a passionate advocate for gender equality. Currently, I am proudly the president of Girl Up Tampico and I am so incredibly honored to be part of the 2020-2021 Teen Advisor class.
Growing up in a small community can be quite challenging, especially if you are a girl. I was born and raised in Tampico, Tamaulipas located just a few kilometers from the gulf of Mexico and throughout my life I have experienced some major gender inequalities.
Ever since I have memory, I wanted to do something for my community- gender equality related.Mainly because one of the things I love the most is to share my passion and devotion. The other things I love the most is: playing tennis, debating, reading and practicing wakeboarding. However, I didn't know where to start, until Girl Up Tampico opened in 2018.. Since then, Girl up is like a second family to me, a safe place where I can express my ideas without being judged. Where I learned that, us women should learn to love and protect each other. In other words, a place where I have grown and developed as a feminist. -

"Ni hao #girlheroes! My name is Angela Zhang, and I cannot express how ecstatic I am to serve as Co-Chair for this year’s phenomenal class! My name as Angela means many things - that I am an Asian-American ARTivist from Los Angeles, that I’m a 16-year-old rising senior attending Geffen Academy at UCLA … yet most, it means I stand in solidarity for womxn’s rights across the world. Having founded the first Girl Up chapter in my school, I can say with my whole heart that we are powerful when we do stand in solidarity - I can’t wait to see how my both fellow TA’s and girls everywhere grow, as the world they’ve changed does too!
As a firm advocate of gender equality, mental health, and the issues beyond, I strive to shine light on hidden problems and unheard voices of the world. Alongside fighting for this through Girl Up, I’ve founded ArtVocacy (Art + Advocacy), a youth-led organization spreading awareness on hidden global issues through the arts.
And ultimately, I strive, with you, to find innovative ways to better our community especially during this time, inspiring empathy in hearts of all palettes. Let’s change the world, sketching and speaking, together!" -

Hi! I am Angelina, I’m 17 and from Franklin, Massachusetts. I joined the Girl Up Club at my high school during my freshman year and since then, I have enjoyed every second of it! Last summer I received the opportunity to attend the Girl Up Leadership Summit in D.C. That was such a wonderful experience getting to listen to influential speakers, attend workshops and connect with girls from different parts of the world.
Being apart of Girl Up has taught me so much about women’s rights issues and empowering myself and others around me. Speaking out about social justice has always been something that I value deeply, I marched in the recent Climate Strike and marched in March For Our Lives in 2018.
I am currently in the process of creating a mental health law alongside my state Representative. Inclusivity is also something that I am passionate about, working alongside people with special needs has taught me how important it is to be accepting of all people. I am eager and honored to be a Teen Advisor. I look forward to continuing to learn new things and connect with a diverse group of girls that share similar ideologies. -

Kamusta! My name is Danielle Villafaña. I'm a 16-year-old first-generation Filipino Australian and a senior at Fort Street High School in Sydney, Australia on the Gadigal land of the Eora nation. I acknowledge the connection to country of indigenous Australians and pay my respect to elders past, present and emerging. Social justice cannot be achieved without justice for first nations people.
Currently, I lead Girl Up: Believe Survivors. We are a community-based Girl Up club in Sydney. As a survivor of sexual violence, I am incredibly passionate about the rights of survivors and ensuring that all survivors access justice. We are fierce advocates against gender-based violence and fight to raise awareness of the sexual assault epidemic by amplifying survivors’ voices and fighting against institutional inequalities.
I am also an organiser for School Strike for Climate and Polluters Out. Last year, we organised Australia’s largest environmental protest mobilising 330 000 Australians!
I believe that climate justice, social justice and gender equality are inextricable; we cannot fight one without fighting the others. To me, gender equality means radical acceptance and empowerment. I want you to be angry, and then I want you to act. Together, girls can change the world! -

"Hi everyone! My name is Emily Lin, I am seventeen years old, and I am from Taiwan. I am super excited and honored to be part of the 2020-2021 class of Teen Advisors. Currently I am leading a Girl Up club in my high school and will become a senior in the ‘20-’21 school year. Growing up under traditional Asian expectations, I have experienced the extent of the effects gender inequality and toxic stereotypes can have on people, especially young girls. I came across Girl Up on the night of the International Day of Girls three years ago and ever since then I have been taking part in one of the most inclusive and diverse communities.
To me, feminism is more than a social movement. It has helped a shy, self-conscious girl who is constantly told that women don’t have the capability to achieve discover her voice matters and that being her true self is enough. Let us Rise Up, Speak Up, and Girl Up! (and did I mention Turning Up the volume of that Girl Power playlist?)" -

Hello Girl Up! My name is Ivonne Ortega. I am a sixteen year old rising senior at James A. Garfield High School in East Los Angeles, California.
I am so excited and honored to be a Teen Advisor for the class of 2020-2021. I have been a part of Girl Up from a very young age. From the moment that I first attended my first Girl Up event, I fell in love with Girl Up. It was no doubt that when I started high school, I joined the Girl Up club! Being a dedicated member paid off, as I am going into my senior year I will be the president of my high school’s club! I love everything that Girl Up stands for, women and girls are extremely powerful and a force to be reckoned with. I am a proud Latina truly passionate about gender equality and social justice issues! There is no one who can stop me from fighting for what I believe in. I look forward to be a Teen Advisor !
When I am not taking part of a Girl Up activity, I am watching a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game or making chocolate covered strawberries while listening to Bad Bunny! -

Hello! My name is Izabella Pollett and being a sophomore in high school makes one wonder if other people are going through the same experiences of stress or fear daily. Truth be told, we are all going through the same things, but we don’t discuss it as often as we should. In high school, I have come to more fully appreciate the phrase “no one is perfect”. Yes, but we are all “perfect” in our way. In being geekily interested in mechanics, computers, and all things Star Wars, these interests have made me consider the impact our passions can have on the world. On my bucket list, I hope to make a robot that can wash dishes. Even though that is still on my bucket list, there are more pressing issues such as ensuring every child has equal access to the same educational opportunities. As an advocate for educational rights, there is great truth in the infinite number of possibilities created when one learns. On my school’s robotics team, we are always striving to create new ideas to accomplish a task. With enough passion and drive, anything is possible.

I am so grateful to be apart of the 2020-2021 Teen Advisor Class. I currently serve as the Co-President of B-CC Girl Up and am beyond thrilled to be one of the Co-Chairs for this year's class. Previously, I was also a member of the 2019-2020 Teen Advisor Class, the Advocacy Director for Girl Up's DMV Coalition, and have attended multiple leadership summits.
Girl Up has given me the chance to use my voice and find the leader within me. Before Girl Up, I had never felt entirely accepted for who I am, but since joining in 2017, I have now learned to empower myself and others and see my true potential. Girl Up has also given me the chance to meet some of my closest friends. I'm looking forward to building new bonds and growing as a person and leader this year.
Outside of Girl Up, I am also apart of Women Deliver's Youth Leadership Program and am on my school's Debate Team. I love trying new foods (especially tacos and dumplings), learning about new cultures, and traveling. " -

My name is Maya Cabrera, I am 17 years old and I live in Naples, Italy. I have lived in 6 countries throughout my life and because of this, I love to travel and experience new cultures. I am passionate about increasing equal gender representation in STEM fields as well as in political leadership.
At school I am on the Varsity Cheerleading and Soccer teams and participate in a number of clubs. This past year I represented my school’s MUN club as a delegate on the Human Rights Committee which allowed me to gain further knowledge on Human Rights around the world.
In the future I hope to pursue a degree in International Relations. My goal is to have a career in which I can influence economic development opportunities for women globally.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as a Girl Up Teen Advisor for the 2020-2021 term. I am excited to use my voice to further support gender equality. -

"Hi! My name's Melissa, and I'm a soon-to-be 17 years old Brazilian. I joined Girl Up in the past year, and since then I've found a safe space to discuss (and even cry our hearts out) gender-based issues. I am SO excited to be the second Brazilian Teen Advisor and I truly hope to empower and inspire other girls as Girl Up has impacted me.
Besides Girl Up, I also am the Founder and Academic Director of Projeto Globalizando, a social project that teaches foreign languages for free to underprivileged Brazilians. Partaking in Model UNs, writing papers, reading lots of books, and doing scientific research are some of my favorite things, too. I am planning on pursuing both Physics and Economics at college, so pray for my soul!
On a more personal note, I could easily define myself as a polyglot science geek. I currently speak 8 languages and am really addicted to the wonders of the universe and clean energy. Writing fiction and articles about my unrequested opinions on current topics is quite fun as well, along with dancing ballet and playing soccer!" -

I am very excited to be a Girl Up teen advisor for the years 2020-2021. I hope to learn from my fellow amazing teen advisors and take what I have learned to help better my community. I currently serve as a board member of my school's Girl Up club. I handle all club finances and fundraising. I am also a dedicated member of my school's African Voices club. Outside of school I am a writer for the blog Genzher. Genzher highlights outstanding female activists across the globe. I also founded None Should be Naked, which is a non-profit organization that brings clothing to children in need. Being a part of the Girl Up community has taught me a lot. Before joining Girl Up I was not very confident and did not speak up for myself. Girl Up is a flatform the encourages young girls and women to be the best they can be. I am very happy and grateful to be apart of this wonderful movement.

My name is Salomé Beyer, one of this year's co-chairs, and I am from Medellín, Colombia! I am beyond excited to share this next school year with all the amazing girls who take part in Girl Up, and I truly believe that our combined efforts will create a real change in our societies, and therefore, the world. I am the President of Girl Up Medellín and founded this Club in 2015 when I was in 6th grade after I realized all the hardships that women and girls have to overcome in our society.
From an early age, I was taught by my parents that I could fly as long as I wanted to, and I would never be slowed down by chains or glass ceilings. This is the message that I want girls in my community to understand. A few of my hobbies include imaginative traveling, compulsive reading of novels, participation in Model United Nations and advocating for girls in my community! I was elected as Sub-Secretary General of my school's MUN for the 2020 version, I am part of the National Honor Society, and I also constantly engage in debate forums regarding women's rights.
In college, I want to study History and Political Sciences, and I would love to do so in Europe. I am very interested in learning about new cultures and countries, and I am willing to answer any questions you might have about my city and my country. I want to bring awareness to the gender-based issues in my society, and I also want to provide government-backed programs to help survivors of sexual assault, which are unfortunately very common in my country. I truly believe that through education, my goals can be achieved. I know that the power of girls and the power of education are two of the strongest forces out there, and can't wait to meet as many Girl Up members as I can! See you soon! -

Hi, Girl Up! My name is Shania Hurtado, and I am a bilingual 17-year-old Venezuelan-American student, writer, organizer, and coder from Houston, Texas! I am a rising senior at Klein Collins High School, and I currently serve as the Coalition Leader for the Girl Up Southeast Texas Coalition as well as the President and Founder of Girl Up Klein Collins.
I am beyond excited, honored, and grateful to serve as a Girl Up Teen Advisor for the class of 2020-21!
As an advocate for gender equity, climate justice, and women in STEM, I am dedicated to organizing in my community through an intersectional feminist framework. From organizing the first Houston Youth Climate Rally, to founding and directing HoustonGirlsCode, a free, week-long summer camp for minority girls in grades 4th through 8th, to co-founding PERIOD Houston, I strive to uplift the voices of women of color and make space for the youth.
When I’m not editing spreadsheets or calling representatives, you can find me spending time with my family, playing the cello, reading books written by women of color, doing yoga, writing, listening to reggaeton, and drinking iced matcha lattes! -

Hello, fellow Sheroes! I am Tatiana Fahie, a 16-year-old advocate for gender equality, community development, and climate change. I was born in Manhattan, New York City but raised on the beautiful island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands (big up my island people!) From my primary years, I've been an active member of my school, church, local and global community. I taught ballet, hip-hop, and stage presence to students ages 3 - 12 at the BVI Dance School and Firebird Performing Arts. In my final year of primary, graduating as the Salutatorian, I served as the Vice President of the National Elementary Honor Society whilst founding and presiding over the EarlyAct of St. George's Primary. In addition, I joined the BVI Red Cross as a youth volunteer in 2015. During my time in East Side Middle School in Upper East Side, post-Hurricanes Irma and Maria, my Student Council committee (Hurricane Irma Relief) donated $600 to the BVI Red Cross' rebuilding project. Later that year, under my leadership, the Hurricane Irma Relief Committee donated school supplies worth over $50,000 to the BVI Department of Education. Since my return home, I founded the first Girl Up chapter in the British Virgin Islands. Simultaneously, presiding over the InterAct Club of my International Baccalaureate school: Cedar International School. On Sundays, I serve as an acolyte at St. George's Episcopal Anglican Church. And now, I am part of the Girl Up Teen Advisor Class of 2020-21 :)

"Hey! I’m Trisha Venkatesh, a 16 year old activist from Bangalore, India. I have spent my life moving back and forth between Bangalore and San Jose, California every few years, which means I am ALWAYS conflicted on what the right spelling of “color”/“colour” is!
I currently serve as the Founding President of Girl Up TISB, at The International School Bangalore, where I am currently a rising senior in the IBDP. Girl Up has helped me discover the power of my voice and taught me the importance of creating ""safe spaces"" free of judgement and for open discussion to help others find their voices too!
Apart from Girl Up, I lead the Social Entrepreneurship club at my school and play the flute. I also co-founded an organisation called “Igniting Youth”, a virtual platform that bridges together the diverse youth of India to advocate for and uplift marginalised and under-represented communities. My future goals include fighting climate change and gender-based violence. In my free time, I like to watch Netflix, read articles and books, cycle around my neighbourhood, and have heated debates with my friends!
I can’t wait to change the world with all of you, even if it’s through Zoom!" -

"Hi everyone! My name is Victoria Ortiz, and I am a 14-year-old rising sophomore at Phillips Academy Andover, originally from Brooklyn, New York. I am so excited to be a part of the 2020-21 class of Teen Advisors, and to continue working towards facing more issues of social injustice head-on!
As a Latinx student (Puerto Rican-American!), it has always been important for me to better identify how I can help spread awareness about different issues, and have been able to do so with the help of affinity spaces on campus. I love the arts and more specifically photography. Last year in my middle school, my photography final project revolved around school gun violence, and since then I have participated in walkouts and vigils to continue spreading awareness about the issue.
This school year, I have also been lucky enough to participate in the Social Justice Leadership Institute (SJLI) with Boston Mobilization as well as engage in different forums about various issues at my school. I am excited to work with my fellow advisors so we can all work towards change, and I know that as a class we will be able to do amazing things!" -

I currently serve as the president of the Girl Up Basha High Club and also Co-lead of the Arizona Coalition. I am so grateful to have been selected and incredibly excited to be serving as a Girl Up Teen Advisor this year!
Girl up taught me so much these past three years; It is like the big sister I never had and always wanted. Being a part of this program and the movement inspires me to be a better person each and every day. I can not express into words how grateful I am to have found girl up. I’ve learned more about myself, made more lifelong friendships and done more for my community in these few years being a part of girl up than I have in my entire life. Girl up has helped me discover a side of myself that I didn’t even know existed, shown me that I can make a difference and manifested within me the drive and power to do so. I could not be more excited to work with Girl Up’s amazing members over the next year, as we continue to break more glass ceilings until we reach gender equality! -

"The simple words “veni, vidi, vixit” might come off as puzzling when describing myself (unless you speak latin, of course) … (No? Ok. They mean: I came, I saw, I lived). Simple words? Yes. When you looked pass my words to my actions? Not so much. Whether it’s about business or economics, the arts or languages, the feminist or black lives matter movement; every tutoring session, every dance at summer camp, every political debate, every protest sign; I live them with passion. With my leadership, I aim to close the socioeconomic opportunity in women's education through volunteering with non-profit organizations such as Breakthrough Miami; attending engineering programs such as MOSTEC; and making an impact on the children of my community through The Nyah Project.
When you do not find me pursuing my primary passions, you can find me roller skating or posting revealing news about the world on my Instagram highlights. Social media has grown to be a crucial tool of awareness about situations that happen around the planet. When I am not looking at a speech that former president Obama gave endorsing Joe Biden, I am hoping that the Horoscope’s Capricorn section has something good in store for month. "
